Who can I bring to my appointment?

The environments in which we assess and diagnose are always carefully chosen. We would request that, generally, when you come to see us, the client themselves and one other person, if required, is with them. If you would like to bring other people with you, please do check ahead to ensure we can accommodate this in the space we are working. If the client is less than 18 years of age, we would always request that their parent or guardian is with them.

Do you have a social story to put my child at ease?

A social story is a description of a situation, event or activity which explains what is going to happen and how the child should respond.

We have a social story you can read with your child and a short video of Lisa so they know who they are going to meet and what to expect.

Will I get a report for my school or workplace?

Your report is forwarded to you within 10-14 working days of your assessment.  This includes useful information for your school/work setting and advice on individual needs. The report will be emailed to you from [email protected]

Timing of appointments

We schedule our appointments very carefully.  If you could arrive at the time stated, this would help us tremendously to give everyone their full allotted time.  Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate a waiting area.

Do I need an eye test before a visual stress assessment?

We always request that you have had a recent optician’s appointment to check all is well with your vision.

Can a prescription be added to tinted glasses?

The basic cost for a standard prescription below 2.0 is £40.  Costs will vary depending upon the strength and composition of the prescription. Additional costs can be advised prior to your appointment.

If a prescription is required in your new lenses, please email [email protected] requesting a letter for your optician.  Please state whether this is for yourself, for varifocal lenses or for a child. This letter will provide your optician with all the information they need to help us to help you.

How long will it take for my glasses to be ready?

Our lab is based in the UK and the standard time for your tinted glasses to be returned to you (or your optician if under 16 years old) is 3-4 weeks from the time our lab receive your chosen frames and / or uncoated lenses. We do have an express pathway which takes 7-10 days for an additional cost of £30.

Can I have both assessments on the same day?

Yes!

This is called a "combined" assessment. You would have both assessments seperately with an hour "brain" break in between. This is charged at the same cost as both assessments (Stage 1 + Stage 2)

My hormones affect my visual stress, when should I have an assessment?

We recommend that you have an appointment on your best day if possible and then be prepared to use overlays on your worst days.

What's the difference between the coloured overlays and the spectral filters?

Coloured overlays reduce the contrast on the printed page, so the contrast between the white background

and black print making it more comfortable to look at. They are only helpful, but the benefits are limited to

the printed page. In contrast, tinted filter lenses alter the speed at which all visual information reaches the

brain, which means that both words on the page and things in the environment can be improved.

Will I see the world in colour?

The answer is no. When the correct coloured filters are worn, colours will look natural (i.e. white will still

look white) and the environment will be light, not duller, like when wearing sunglasses. Spectral Filters

provide the most protection from the wavelengths of light that cause the individual’s symptoms and

distortions.

Can I wear my friend's old tinted glasses?

While this seems like a great money saving idea, it's actually not. Tinted lenses are made of several different tints to suit an individual's need. Nobody has the exact same tint and so wearing your friends won't help all of your visual stress symptoms in the long run.
